The story behind BIKEBAZ

From frustration to innovation: our journey to a safer cycling environment.

Why we exist

Every day, thousands of bicycles disappear. These are not anonymous objects, but people who suddenly cannot get to school, arrive late at work, or feel stressed trying to pick up their children. Bicycle theft disrupts everyday life, yet it is still treated as something inevitable. BIKEBAZE exists because we find that unacceptable.

The beginning

BIKEBAZE was founded by Dries Dederen after his own bicycle was stolen within a month, despite proper security. Only the lock was left behind, under a camera, with no follow-up. Conversations with the police, municipalities, and insurers made one thing clear: bicycle theft is accepted. That moment became the starting point for a different approach, BIKEBAZE.

Our mission

We make bicycle theft visible, unattractive, and provable. Through free bicycle registration, visible SafeTags, and data-driven insights, we reduce the risk of theft and increase the impact of prevention.

Our vision

Bicycle theft cannot be solved individually. It requires collaboration, data, and shared responsibility. We are building an ecosystem in which cyclists, municipalities, insurers, and organizations work together on structural change.

Community as a force

We believe real change starts with people. Every registered bicycle, every SafeTag, and every report strengthens the collective. This is how we make patterns visible, create pressure, and force action where it has been absent for too long.

Our team

What started as personal frustration has grown into a driven team of thinkers and doers who work every day toward one goal: no longer accepting bicycle theft as normal.
