The story behind BIKEBAZE®
From frustration to innovation: our journey towards a safer cycling environment.
Why we exist
Every day thousands of bikes disappear. They are not anonymous objects, but people who can suddenly no longer get to school, arrive late at work or stress about picking up their kids. Bike theft disrupts everyday life, yet it is still treated as something inevitable. BIKEBAZE exists because we find that unacceptable.
The beginning
BIKEBAZE was founded by Dries Dederen, after his own bike was stolen within a month despite proper security. Only the lock was left behind, under a camera, without any follow-up. Conversations with police, municipalities and insurers made one thing clear: bike theft is accepted. That moment was the starting point for a different approach: BIKEBAZE.
Our mission
We make bike theft visible, unattractive and provable. With free bike registration, visible SafeTags and data-driven insights, we reduce the chance of theft and increase the impact of prevention.
Our vision
Bike theft cannot be solved alone. It requires collaboration, data and shared responsibility. We are building an ecosystem in which cyclists, municipalities, insurers and organisations work together on structural change.
Community as a force
We believe real change starts with people. Every registered bike, every SafeTag and every report strengthens the collective. That way we make patterns visible, create pressure and force action where it has been missing for too long.
Our team
What started as personal frustration has grown into a driven team of thinkers and doers who work every day towards one goal: making bike theft no longer normal.
