Technical
We review every registration. If your bike turns out to already be on another account, we contact both of you. We ask for proof of ownership and a short explanation so we can resolve the situation, and adjust the registrations once ownership is clear.
Ja. Dit kan je doen in je account.
Controleer je spamfolder of ongewenste e-mail. Nog steeds niks? Neem contact met ons op en we kijken wat er foutloopt.
You can see the status of your bike in your account. If your bike is not listed there, the registration may not have been completed. Contact us if you run into problems.
Ja, dat kan. Je kan je fietsgegevens aanpassen in je account.
Want to remove a bike without transferring it? Go to your account, open the overview of registered bikes, tap a bike and choose to remove it.
Fill in the registration form separately for each bike. Each bike then gets its own entry in your account.
Go to your account > Overview of registered bikes > Select bike > Edit details.
Scan the SafeTag on the bike or use the search function on the website and enter the frame number or SafeTag ID. You will immediately see whether the bike is registered as 'stolen'.
Fill in the recovered-bike form. This updates your bike's status to 'recovered'. If someone looks up your frame number or scans the SafeTag, they will see that the bike is no longer reported as stolen and will not be able to contact you about it.
Fill in the theft form and include as many details as possible (more detail means a better chance of recovery). Your bike's status is changed to 'stolen'. If someone looks up your frame number or scans the SafeTag, they will see that your bike has been stolen and can contact you to share the location. Don't forget to also file a report with the police.
Sold or given away your bike? Start the transfer from your account. You pick the bike and enter the new owner's email address. If they already have a BIKEBAZE account, the email is enough. If they don't have an account yet, you also fill in their contact details so a new account can be set up for them. The new owner then receives an email with an acceptance link. Once they confirm the transfer, the bike is linked to the new owner in our database.
Registration runs through the BIKEBAZE bike register: create an account, then register your bike via Add bike. You enter the basics (brand, model, type, colour, value) plus battery details if relevant. The frame number is optional at registration; you can add it later in your account. Registration is free. For effective registration and good traceability after theft, we strongly recommend adding the frame number afterwards.
SafeTag
The SafeTag is extremely strong and bonds firmly to the bike frame. The adhesive is industrially tested and designed to withstand rain, sun, dirt and cold for years. When someone tries to remove it, the sticker tears into small pieces and leaves clear traces behind, making tampering visible and unappealing for thieves. Removing the large SafeTag without damage takes at least 45 minutes; the small SafeTag takes at least 15 minutes.
Every SafeTag has a unique ID and activation code. When you activate it, the sticker is linked to your registered bike in the database. From that moment on anyone can use the SafeTag ID to check whether the bike is registered as stolen and, if so, contact you. If you don't activate your SafeTags, people cannot scan them. The status of your bike can then only be looked up via the frame number in our register.
Ja, onze SafeTags zijn ontworpen voor langdurig buitengebruik. Ze zijn water- en UV-bestendig en kunnen jarenlang tegen regen, zon en temperatuurwisselingen zonder los te laten of te vervagen.
Every SafeTag order contains two stickers by default: one large and one small. The large one is for your bike frame; the small one is for your battery or another spot on the frame. SafeTags are available in yellow, red and grey. We keep testing new colours, so let us know if you have suggestions.
Sure. Order new SafeTags and let us know the new SafeTag ID; we will then activate the new one for you and deactivate the old one. You can stick the new SafeTag on a different spot on your bike, or first remove as much of the old sticker as possible (especially the edges) and apply the new one on top. Keep in mind that a sticker applied over the old one is easier to remove. Always try to make sure the new SafeTag is in direct contact with the frame as much as possible, that is when it bonds best.
We recommend sticking the large SafeTag on the frame between your legs, where it is clearly visible and lasts a long time. Got an electric bike? Then stick the small SafeTag on the battery. No e-bike? Stick it on the front of your bike, for example under the handlebars. That way it stands out and your bike is extra recognisable.
Our SafeTags are designed to resist tampering. Removing one without damage is nearly impossible. On average it takes at least 45 minutes to remove the large sticker without residue or damage to the bike, and at least 15 minutes for the small one. The adhesive is strong, the sticker breaks into many small pieces during removal and leaves traces behind. That makes removal unappealing for thieves and obvious to enforcement.
Our SafeTags are hard to remove without leaving traces. If your bike is stolen and the thief did remove the sticker, your bike is slightly less recognisable but not untraceable. Your frame number remains linked to your name in our register. So always report your bike as stolen IMMEDIATELY and file a police report. If someone later looks up your frame number, or if the bike is recovered by enforcement or police, the match with you can still be made and they can get in touch. To reassure you: yes, we regularly recover bikes based on the frame number alone.
You activate your SafeTag from the activation form in your account. Pick the bike the SafeTag goes on (it must already be registered), enter the 6-character SafeTag ID and the activation code (BB followed by 4 digits). Activation is instant: you'll see a success confirmation. Once you see that confirmation, you can stick the SafeTags on your bike following the instructions.
Practical
A good lock, insurance and tracker are valuable, but they do not fully prevent theft. What BIKEBAZE adds is visibility and proof. Registration, prevention and community. With a SafeTag you show thieves, passers-by and enforcement that your bike is registered. That deters. After a theft you can update the status quickly, prove your ownership, and increase the chance that someone recognises, checks or returns your bike. Registration links your bike to your name, frame number and details, which helps with recovery. In short: BIKEBAZE works alongside your other measures and makes your bike visible, verifiable and findable for everyone.
It is the small details that make your bike unique, such as scratches, stickers, accessories or colour combinations. These characteristics help prove ownership after a theft and increase the chance that your bike will be recognised and recovered. The more you record, the stronger your evidence.
Batteries are stolen very often, yet hardly anyone registers them. As a result they often remain anonymous, even when they are recovered in large quantities. By registering your battery number you increase the chance that your battery will be recognised and recovered during an inspection or police raid. Batteries are expensive, so don't underestimate the importance of a good registration.
Contact the owner via the details that appear when you scan the SafeTag or look up the frame number. Share the location. Need help or unsure what to do? Get in touch with us. You can also contact the police, especially if the situation is suspicious or unsafe.
You can also register your bike without a frame number. In that case share as many details as possible, such as brand, colour, type and standout features. Make sure you fit your bike with a SafeTag. Without a frame number or SafeTag your bike is not visible in the database and nobody can check its status.
If you have sold or given away your bike, you should transfer ownership. Fill in the transfer form with the new owner's details. After both parties confirm, the bike is officially transferred in the database. Do this during the sale. Too late and you can no longer reach the new owner? Go to your account and remove the bike.
General
Registration makes it visible who owns a bike or battery. After a theft you can prove ownership, and when your bike or battery is recovered it can actually be returned to you. Bikes and batteries are often stolen and regularly recovered in large quantities, but without registration they remain anonymous and nobody can contact you. By registering you increase the chance of recovery and make life harder for thieves. A simple registration makes the difference.
Scan the BIKEBAZE sticker or look up the frame number in our database. Is the bike not reported as stolen? Then register it in the BIKEBAZE register right away. Did you buy the bike from someone who had already registered it? Ask the seller to transfer ownership to you from their account. Is the bike registered as stolen? Then contact the rightful owner and do not use the bike until the situation is resolved. Reach out to us with any questions.
Registering your bike in our register is free. Want to protect your bike further with a SafeTag? You can order one for a one-time price of €9.99. The SafeTag makes your registration visible and increases the chance of recovery after theft.
Engraving leaves a visible mark on your bike, usually on the frame. That can deter thieves, but it is static and isn't registered anywhere accessible. BIKEBAZE goes further: your bike is linked to your name in a publicly accessible bike register (anyone can check the status), and via the SafeTag others (such as police or passers-by) can immediately verify whether a bike is stolen. On top of that, our community enables active recovery, something engraving lacks. Engraving is a physical marking, BIKEBAZE is digital, traceable and community-driven. Engraving can also damage your bike and make it harder to resell.
The BIKEBAZE community consists of every user who registers their bike, the people who actively scan SafeTags or look up frame numbers, and partners such as insurers, municipalities and enforcement. What makes us unique is our large group of active spotters: people who scan SafeTags whenever they come across them, on the street or at a bike rack. Every time you scan a SafeTag, share the location of a stolen bike or invite a new user, you earn points in your account. You redeem those points for discounts on products and even free SafeTags. Together we make bike theft more visible and less attractive.
A second (or third) battery can be linked to the same bike during registration. Under Add bike you can enter up to three batteries, each with its own battery number and brand. For extra visibility you can order and activate a separate small SafeTag per battery.
We are based in the Netherlands, but anyone worldwide can register their bike with us. Our focus is the Netherlands, but we also receive many registrations from Belgium, France and Germany — countries where stolen Dutch bikes regularly surface, and where bikes from those countries surface here. Because bike theft is cross-border, we operate internationally and are working to expand our visibility in these regions.
Check whether the bike is registered with BIKEBAZE by entering the frame number or SafeTag ID via the search function, or scan the SafeTag. If the bike is registered as stolen, the owner's contact details will appear. Help the owner by sharing the location.
